Lakelands Trail State Park is part of the growing Great Lake-to-Lake Trail across lower Michigan. It is one of four linear state parks in the Michigan State Park system that have been converted from the old Michigan Air Line Railroad abandoned railroad corridor.
This trail currently is completed across Livingston County through Hamburg and Putnam townships, and passes through wooded areas and rolling farmland, and towns and villages. It is over 20 miles long with largely paved surface.
Lakelands is designed for hiking, bicycling, and wheelchair use on the north side and horseback riding for much of its length, on the south side of the trail. Cross-country skiing is popular in winter.
Motorized vehicles and hunting are prohibited on the trail.
Work is being done to connect westward to Jackson County trails and eastward through Green Oak Township to the Island Lake State Recreation Area trails, which connect to the Kensington Metropark trail system, and on to South Lyon trails and the Huron Valley Trail across Oakland County.
The Friends of Lakelands Trail welcome you to join us in maintaining and improving the trail. Contact president firstname.lastname@example.org for information about our next meeting!
